About Size 40D Bras

A 40D is a 40 band with a D cup — a fuller cup. The band does most of the work (around 80% of your support), so if it rides up at the back or the straps dig in, it's the band to fix, not you.

Is 40D a big bra size?

The 40 band is roomy and D is the entry fuller cup, so 40D is a moderate full size overall. The band carries most of the support.

Is a 40D bigger than a 40DD?

No — on the same 40 band, DD is one step above D, so 40DD is the bigger cup. If a 40D overflows, 40DD is the size up.

Is 40D equal to 38DD?

They're sister sizes — the same cup volume. The 40D has the bigger band, the 38DD the snugger one. Same cup, so pick by band fit.

What size is a 40D bra?

A 40-inch band with a D cup — a moderate fuller size on a roomy band. Its sisters are 38DD and 42C if you need to adjust the band.
