About Size 40DD Bras

A 40DD is a 40 band with a DD cup — a fuller cup. The band does most of the work (around 80% of your support), so if it rides up at the back or the straps dig in, it's the band to fix, not you.

Questions, answered

What size is a 40DD?

The 40 is your band — roughly a 40-inch ribcage — and the DD is the cup, about 5 inches between your underbust and fullest point. Put together, 40DD is one fitted size, not two separate measurements.

Is the band or the cup more important in a 40DD?

The band. In a 40DD, the 40 band gives most of the lift and support; the DD cup just needs to hold your volume without spilling. A loose band is the most common fit problem, so that's where to start.

Which is bigger, 40DD or 40E?

On the same 40 band, cups run D, DD, E — so a 40DD is one cup fuller than a 40D and one less than a 40E. Same band, just more or less cup depth.
